5 out of 5 stars This shampoo is effective   July 27, 2010
E. Sia
I've brushed my 90-lb Rottweiler/Shepherd mix with the FURminator for 2 years, and decided to try out the Waterless deShedding Shampoo because sending her to the groomer's every month gets expensive. She was undecided about it at first but she always stands really still when I rub the shampoo deep into her coat. She loves the massage!

The shampoo definitely does what it's supposed to do: it untangles and cleans. Our dog smells wonderful after each waterless shampoo. We use this shampoo on her once a week. After each shampoo, her coat is soft and shiny. It should be noted that it helps quite a bit if you brush your pet before using the shampoo.

She's had two waterless shampoos so far, and I have noticed a significant drop in the amount of fur when I brush her in between shampoos.

Some have mentioned the really strong perfume smell in this product. It is pretty strong, but I don't mind it at all. I highly recommend this product!

3 out of 5 stars Not exactly what I needed for the problem spots on my dog.   July 8, 2010

I was looking for a product that I could use to spot wash places in my dog's hair that get tree sap on them daily. He lies in a hole he has dug under a cypress tree and the roots put sap in his fur. The groomer cannot sell me the special shampoo she has to use that does remove this sap. However, I need something I can use daily to spot wash him. If you have such a product, I would like to know what it is.

1 out of 5 stars Which is worse? A smelly dog or a chemical odor that causes asthma ?   May 5, 2010

I can't really speak to the benefits of this product because, for me, the horrendous odor so outweighed the positives. I couldn't really use enough of the stuff to get the desired results because the aroma overwhelmed me and caused difficulty breathing from the first squirt. If you don't mind strong chemical perfumes, then you might get good results with the de-shedding aspects. As for me, I regret having paid the money for something I can't really use.

3 out of 5 stars FURminator shampoo   April 22, 2010

This waterless shampoo has a very nice and pleasing smell. It softens and makes the fur very smooth and easy to brush with the FURminator brush. Would recommend to others.

4 out of 5 stars If you have a large dog with long hair, then yes, use this product.   April 12, 2010

I am quite sensitive to most smells, and while I see that many people find the smell of this product overwhelming, were the smell not quite concentrated, those of us with quite furry little monsters in our lives and hearts wouldn't have a need for a product like this in the first place.

I will say that the product is concentrated enough that I cannot imagine spraying it on my cats without watering it down a bit. However, my shepherd-chow mix needs it in just the concentration it comes in order for me to appreciate the difference, and appreciate it I do. In spades.

I live in muggy North Carolina and began using this product a year ago not so much for the lack of shedding it promises (I gave up that fight a long time ago) but because one good romp outside and my dog gets "that" smell. Worse, in the spring, one good walk in the rain and "that" smell is all over me, my bedding, everything. This has been a life-saver. As some previous reviewers have mentioned, when you have a dog in the winter months you worry about drying time and their safety. Here, too, I have been able to stretch out the time between "real" baths, which are not a good time for either my dog or I when done at home or for my checkbook when done at the groomer, as I am a graduate student.

If you have a dog with longer hair and you're looking for something that smells unlike a baby wipe (that was my complaint with all of the dog "wipes" on the market that promise to clean your dog's hair between baths) I think you should give this a shot.
