Did nothing August 26, 2010 cats3 Sentry HC Good Behavior Pheromone Cat Collar 15-Inch
I certainly hope that some of the proceeds from the sale of these collars go to benefit an animal organization! My two cats looked cute and smelled nice with them on, but they did nothing to improve their behavior. (The third cat is no problem.) Maybe they are not for the problem I had hoped they would help. These two cats, to put it mildly, don't like each other. I did all the right things in the introduction process and tried everything I could think of, since. One growls when the other is near and/or swipes at him. He looks for any opportunity to trap and pounce on her, creating loud screams and flying fur. Sigh!
Seems to help August 24, 2010 The Lovely Lesil (USA) As long as I keep up with it, it calms down my cat. She is an inappropriate urinatior, and tends to be a bit grumpy. It makes her feel calmer (I assume) and she doesn't fight with the other animals as much, and seems to be a bit more contented. We also haven't had any more accidents since she's worn it, but we don't let her out of our sight very often anymore either.
The Hisser and The Pisser August 20, 2010 MaureentheTemp (Alexandria, VA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We adopted two cats from our local shelter, unrelated spayed females about three years old, who turned into The Hisser and The Pisser. Although we did everything "correctly", took several weeks to introduce them, multiple litter boxes cleaned twice a day, Feliway dispensers (THREE) AND Feliway spray, several cat trees, etc etc etc, they were both little terrors. The Hisser hissed and growled AT EVERYTHING -- my husband, me, bugs, furniture, the television, the other cat. All she wanted was to stay in the little cat carrier she had been brought home in and peek out, it was actually really sad. And she just HATED The Pisser. The Pisser -- well, guess. She was very friendly and affectionate, but pee'd E V E R Y W H E R E -- the bed, the couch, the ottomans, the curtains (I still don't know how she got it up that high), chairs, grocery bags -- it would be quicker to list where she DIDN'T pee. The vet gave us anti-anxiety drugs that we used for awhile, but it didn't really help. After four months of this I actually talked to the shelter about giving one or both of them back, but hesitated because that would have labeled them "unadoptable." In desperation, I tried this collar.
It took about a week, but the change with The Pisser was astonishing. I won't say it was a complete miracle, she still pees in the bathroom occasionally. But she went from peeing everywhere to peeing about 95% of the time in the litterboxes. That I can live with. The Hisser, once The Pisser stopped peeing everywhere, became much calmer and more friendly. Personality wise, she just isn't a "cuddly" kitty, but she is loads of playful fun and now only hisses and growls when we clip her nails. I am not sure in her case it was the collar although I put one on both cats, her behavior got better the second week -- it seemed more a reaction to The Pisser not urinating over everything.
Yes, the faux lavender scent is hideous and the collar is plastic and stiff. I am also not convinced it will work for every cat, as I said I don't think The Hisser was really much affected by it, I think she reacted to the change in the other cat's behavior. And why this would work when Feliway didn't I don't know, since I assume the phermones they both use are the same. But based on my experience I absolutely think this is worth a try, for the right cat it will be really helpful, it made a world of difference for The Pisser. I would strongly recommend trying this collar before going on to anti-anxiety meds or thinking about re-homing/giving away the cat.
Overwhelming perfumey smell August 16, 2010 Kelley Hunt (Texas, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just purchased this for one of my cats. As soon as I took it out of the package I noticed a strong perfumey smell. I had to ask myself "how would you like to smell this every waking hour, even when you are eating your food?" I could not in good conscience put this around my cat's neck. I only hope I can get a refund on this item. It might be a better idea to get a cloth collar and spray it with one of those odorless pheromone sprays.
DO NOT BUY - DANGEROUS August 15, 2010 Heather Hopkin 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all, I would like to say I have three cats that are in the process of moving with me. One is a nervous little bag of bones, S, and the other two are generally more calm, relaxed, etc.
On my nervous cat, he's had no reaction except to be a little calmer. So 1/3 of my cats was fine with this product.
That being said, what happened with my other two is beyond words.
I had noticed a little bit of chewing going on with the color of T, one of the two calmer cats. I thought it was perhaps one of the other cats chewing on it, so I decided to watch him more carefully. This was the day I put the collar on him. A few hours later I noticed he had chewed almost right through the collar, and was licking at the place where his artery is obsessively. I took the collar off him immediately, and threw it away. That didn't stop his licking, so I gave him a quick washdown with water and baby shampoo. Now he's fine.
The OTHER CAT is even worse. I am so frustrated and furious that there was no mention on the product that this could happen.
I took the collar off B when I removed T's collar, though B had no signs of licking or scratching or anything whatsoever. I went to bed, woke up this morning, and he had LICKED ALL THE FUR OFF HIS NECK, and even deeper, resulting in a HUGE OOZING SORE right over his artery. He is obsessively licking, and because the skin is so raw, I cannot wash the pheromone off him. I have put neosporin on him, and am watching him, but I constantly have to get him to stop licking.
Between this happening to 2/3 of my cats, and the absolutely HORRIFIC smell of these, I cannot recommend you NEVER BUY THIS PRODUCT. Please. It's too dangerous, and the manufacturer obviously does not care about the welfare of your cats, because there is NO WARNING LABEL OR ADVISEMENT.
