My 4 year old Papillon, Belle is picky about her toys. She can be a power chewer so this toy gets used with supervision but she loves the puzzle of it! She rolls it with her paws and really works at it instead of just chewing through it like she did with so many Kong toys. I think she really likes it because it doesn't make loud noises. The price is fair- way better than a lot of petstores sell it for! I think it's a great addition to her toy collection. For chewies though, we stick to bully sticks and pig ears.

This toy is worthless.... you place the kibble inside, twist to close and they are supposed to have fun trying to get the kibble out. What they fail to say is that the toy doesn't stay closed. If you twist too far, they can't get anything out. If you open it a little more, it opens by itself and all the kibble tumbles out. Game over.... no further interaction, no play, no stimulation, nothing... This is just not worth it.

I have a papillon and a pek/bischon mix - both approx 12 Lbs and not heavy chewers. They like this toy and will spend about an hour batting it around. I break it out maybe once or twice a week, especially when I need to keep them busy, any more often and they just seem to ignore it.
Worth the money - I purchased theirs back in Jan 2010 and it is still in very good condition.

Instead of just giving my dog a "cookie", I wanted to make him earn it. This toy is hard rubber that connects by screwing one piece into the other. Super easy to load. Since I used his kibble as a treat, it falls out of the little openings on the sides when he turns it. It doesn't occupy him all that long, but I'm sure it would if I loaded it with larger treats. He doesn't try to chew it, only nudges it with his paws and nose to make it rotate, a new behavior for him.

This is a great toy, but, yes, even though it is pretty tough, it will get chewed up along the thinner edges pretty quickly with a large-sized, aggressive chewer, if you don't use it properly (see below). Having said that, though, I must say that I absolutely love it!
Use this toy as an activity toy, NOT a chew toy, and you and your dog will be happy. You might need to buy a size larger than you normally would. And make sure you screw the two pieces together tightly enough that it is not possible for the dog to chew on only one piece (the toy comes apart into two pieces so you can smear the inside with food, then screws back together).
The way to save the edges is to make sure your dog can only get the whole thing in his mouth, and that the toy is big enough that it is a bit hard to close his mouth once the whole thing is in there. This encourages him to do more licking, which is the point i.e. keeps them really busy. You don't want your dog to be able to fit his teeth in between the two halves, and so have the ability to chew on the edge of the toy. Give them a different toy for aggressive chewing, and save this one for enrichment/keeping them busy, with just a bit of chewing.
I use this toy with a young, medium-sized, aggressive chewer. I give her at least one meal a day using it. I spread peanut butter or similar on one half, fill the other half with dry food, and screw the halves almost (but not quite) as far as they will screw together. The dry food comes out rather quickly, as she plays with the toy, batting it around and such, then she spends 20 minutes or so licking out the peanut butter. Yes, she does chew on it, and the edges are worn, but holding up fine because she can't really chew just on the edges. Total time with the toy: approximately 25 minutes or so, then I take it away. Fantastic enrichment toy! Had the same one for several months now, have used it 2-3 times daily, no problems.
