1 out of 5 stars Only works sometimes   September 8, 2010

Would have been a great idea if it had better timing. My cats get on the counter and back off again before it starts spraying then goes off several times in a row for no reason. It went through the first can of air in a day. I will be looking for a different option.

5 out of 5 stars MultiVet SSSCat Cat Training Aid   August 22, 2010

Wonderful training aid to keep your cats off of or out of areas where you don't want them to go.

For years I have tried to keep them from jumping on the counters. Now I don't have to worry what they are doing when I'm at work. It did not take long for our kitties to learn. Now I just leave the switch on sound and no spray of air and the unit never goes off!!!

I highly recommend this product as a safe, kitty friendly training aid.

I have two cats that would not stay off the dining room table. They do now thanks to the SSSCAT product. Highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Works great!   August 17, 2010
Lindsay (Las Vegas, NV United States)
I bought the ssscat to keep my kitty from scratching and meowing at my bedroom door at night. The first night, I set it up just outside the door before I went to bed. I heard it go off several times that night. My cat learned almost immediately that the unit was making the scary noise and stayed away from it. Most mornings, my husband opens the bedroom door to find the cat peering down the hall to see if it's still there.

I have to say, I'm really pleased. The unit works pretty well at night, although the range is a little shorter than during the day. This works fine for us, because we use it like a tripwire to keep her from getting too close to our bedroom door, so the 2-ish foot range is just fine. My cat responded just as expected, quickly learning that when the unit is next to the door, she needs to stay away. Because of this, the unit usually only sprays once per night, when we turn it on and let it equalize. For our usage, we're getting a really good life out of the batteries and the spray itself.

I would absolutely recommend this, although of course your results will depend on how ornery your kitty is and what you are using it for. For your reference, our cat responds well to a regular water spray bottle for naughty things, and when she sees someone pick one up, she runs for cover. If your cat makes behavioral associations with visual objects, you might have better luck with this product than some of the people who have given poor reviews.

Good luck!

4 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but still a miracle device   August 16, 2010
Sean Harding (Seattle, WA USA)
I seriously call this device a miracle. We have a new kitten who runs around the house like crazy. We were going absolutely NUTS trying to keep him off of the kitchen counters, out from behind the TV, etc. Nothing we tried worked. He didn't care about being squirted. He got used to the "pennies in a can" trick within a day. He didn't care about saran wrap or foil on the counter (in fact, he used it as a toy). No amount of "NO!" got through. But the SSSCAT worked IMMEDIATELY. We bought one and put it on the kitchen counter where he liked to jump up. Within 10 minutes, he was up there and got sprayed. He was startled, froze for a minute, then got down. About half an hour later he tried again, got sprayed, and hasn't been on the counter since. Really. We bought a few more for other places around the house and have had similar results. We're no longer going crazy trying to keep him out of stuff.

As I said (and other reviewers have mentioned), the product isn't perfect. It's pretty expensive, and we ended up needing several of them to cover all of the places we wanted to keep him out of. In some ways, it would be nice if it had a wider angle of detection so it could cover more ground. For example, we needed two behind the TV, because he would come up from both sides. It would have been nice if it could detect motion from either direction. In other cases, it seems too sensitive -- we have to be really careful about the way we aim them to avoid having them go off when we walk by, or when he's in places we want him to be allowed in. Every once in a while, one will just go off randomly when no one is nearby. That's annoying not only because it wastes gas, but also because I think it hurts the deterrent effect a little bit -- the more he hears it, the more he'll be used to it. It would be great if they worked in the dark. There are still places he goes at night that we'd like to keep him out of (e.g. he goes behind the TV in our bedroom and bats at the cords, making a lot of noise). Finally, sometimes they don't go off when they should. I've never quite been able to figure out what causes it; sometimes the things just act "blind."

But the vast majority of the time, they work, and they do the job far better than anything else we've tried. Yes, they're expensive, but to us they've been worth every penny.
