Product Description
Great for cats and dogs, this fully automatic pet feeder features a tough plastic base that holds a food reservoir for food "on demand." The electronic pet feeder's simple, programmable electronics prompt the feeder to dispense portions from 1/4 to 2 cups at three selected times per day. The unit can be set to meet scheduled feeding times and amounts when caretakers are away, but it is not meant to replace human care--please be sure someone still visits the pet daily. The unit's hopper accommodates a full range of dry food sizes, shapes, and types. The feeding bowl is removable for easy cleaning. Required batteries, which are not included, sustain a long battery life of six months. One-year limited warranty.

4 out of 5 stars do you have a neurotic, meowing, overweight cat? this may be for you!   September 6, 2010
Cortney M. Munna
i adopted my cat (hank) at the SPCA as a 5 year old, where his bad habits were already pretty firmly rooted.

he's always been a chatty guy, which is adorable for the most part. however, he's also always seemed to have a mild obsession with his food bowl, which has resulted in many 3-am-battles, occasional roommate frustration, and a degree of feline obesity. the problem has become a little bit more serious at this point since a second cat has come into the house. she and hank have teamed up to form a frightening duo - he begs constantly for food, and she scarfs it all up as soon as anyone puts it down.

i had considered an auto-feeder, but i doubted that it would really make a difference. then my vet recommended it to me. i was reluctant to spend $50+ on it, but it seemed like it couldn't hurt to try.

a month later, and hank's meowing has mellowed significantly. i can't attest to any weight loss yet, but i CAN say with certainty how much is being dispensed every day, which was not the case before (especially with frustrated roommates who would often give in and put down food, just to get to sleep).

i hope that the product has a decent lifespan and continues to be useful, but i recommend trying it if you have an overweight, talkative kitty!

5 out of 5 stars great product   September 6, 2010

The cat feeder works great and it seems to be rugged. I mounted it about 6 feet high and attached a downspout to it; a raccoon knocked it to the wood floor will no damage to the feeder. I built a hinged box and covered the feeder and attached the box to the wall; so far so good.

Worth every penny. Never fear your pet will get fed. We came back from a 7 day vacation and the cat was still 16lbs. Good Job

3 out of 5 stars Works, but is badly calibrated   September 1, 2010

The timer setup is extremely easy and the cover fits tightly so the food does not go stale.

But as other reviewers mentioned, the portions are MUCH bigger than they are supposed to be. The lowest setting (1/4 c.) is more like a half cup and at times the shutter continues to dispense food every few minutes after the initial feeding.

If you are not extremely picky about portion size you could set it for 1 or 2 meals per day instead of 3, but if you have a pet on a controlled diet I would steer clear of this product.

4 out of 5 stars Cats run when they here the dispensing motor.   September 1, 2010

Provides up to 3 meals a day at quantities up to 3 cups at each serving. The timer works great and it has never failed to dispense food. The issue I have is that the cats can reach their paw up into the rubber fan blades. The finger blades hold the food back until the timer activates. When they paw at the blades, they can get up to a quarter cup extra food by flapping the finger blades to dispense the trapped food. I have to plan on this so I dispense less each time I feed them. I also use duct tape to cover the food tray by the opening. This make it harder for little cat paws to reach the internal plastic dispensing blades.

The feeder is also light enough that the cats can move it around when they try to get more food by sticking the paw up the dispensing slot. I have to wedge it between two plant stands to prevent the feeder from getting knocked over. I have some pretty determined, large and very smart cats. Maybe the average cat won't figure out how to get more food.

It is the best multiple day auto feeder out there. The best feature is that you can specify the amount of food at each time. I would buy this again in a heart beat, even with the issues I mentioned.
