1 out of 5 stars Caution: extremely dangerous   May 9, 2010

My mom bought these for her three dogs - a Lab puppy, an adult Catahoula, and an adult Shih Tzu. The Shih Tzu did fine with half of the bone. As far as we know, nothing bad happened to him. The Catahoula and Lab puppy (about 8 months old), however, both began vomiting that night. The Catahoula got better, but the Lab puppy continued vomiting all that next day. My mom took the puppy to her regular vet, they took x-rays and recommended she visit an emergency vet clinic because they thought there was an obstruction that needed to be cleared out. The emergency vet clinic did surgery and found that her lymph nodes near her intestines were inflamed, which we figure thickened her intestine wall, making it difficult for food to move through. Finally the Lab puppy is coming home today (she is doing well), but earlier my brother gave my adult Australian Shepherd a tiny (very tiny) piece of the granola bar (at that point we hadn't necessarily thought this was the cause of the vomiting and other problems) and she threw up about 4 hours later. She has a weak stomach, so it isn't surprising that such a small amount might effect her. However, what is shocking is that since so many dogs - do google search: "Purina busy bone recall" and it should be the first result - "Dog Food Review - Purina Busy Bone Dental Treat"; it is a hubpages website) to see more about this - have been sick from Purina busy bones that they do not recall them, change the recipe, or get rid of them all together! (Owners have witnessed such side effects as: vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures!)

Please, please consider your dog(s) well-being before you buy this. Even if your dog is one of the lucky ones that don't seem to be effected by this treat, who knows what undetected damage this does to your dog's health. I also doubt anyone wants to be spending the thousands of dollars that the medical costs of this treat results in.

5 out of 5 stars WHEN YOU NEED A NAP   April 21, 2010

give these bones to your dog!! my dog is so obsessed!!! he'll leave me alone for 30 minutes and just go to town on the bone! I keep them on my dresser and when he's bored, he walks in my rooms, sits in front of my dresser, and barks and snorts until I give him one (he's such a spoiled brat!) Highly recommend them! they go for about 5 bucks for 2 bones at the grocery store - this is way cheaper.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   April 17, 2010

My Lab loves these bones. I say Busy Bone and he gets so excited, the sound of the plastic wrapper drives him crazy. They are a bit expensive, considering he is 60 pounds, he finishes each one in about 15-20 minutes. Sometimes, I think he is addicted to these, I might have to check him into B.B.A. (Busy-Bones Anonymous) :)

To sum it up he has never got sick from these (diarrhea, vomiting or seizures), I read about that in another review. If these make him just a bit more happy everyday, the cost is nothing compared to the happiness he brings to my life for the short time he will be here. Love them while their here, for one day they'll be gone.

5 out of 5 stars Busy Bones Rock!   March 30, 2010

The Purina Busy Bone Dentals are a fabulous treat. True, they may not last all that long for a voracious eater, but still the dental benefits are strong and the dogs love them, regardless of how fast they devour them! I was on the Subscribe and Save program and had my 12 year old greyhound Dodgy on a regular regime of one Busy Bone per day. Okay, sometimes I gave him two. But for sure he got one a day. He had Addison's disease and as such, was not able to undergo anesthesia and therefore could not have professional dental cleanings. I did brush his teeth, although not as often as I should have. The Busy Bone Dentals were a fabulous addition to his dental program: they were very effective in helping to remove the tartar buildup and kept his teeth in great condition!
What makes it even better for loving pet owners is that your dog will love this treat! He won't even realize it's good for him! My dog never let me forget to give him his bone: if I happened to be napping at the time when I normally gave him his "bone" each night, he would without fail come wake me up. It was something he looked forward to each day and I loved giving it to him, especially knowing that this treat was having a significant impact on his dental health. I highly recommend this product. I will be a forever loyal customer and as long as I have dogs, I will have Purina Busy Bone Dentals delivered each month! Thanks for the great Subscribe and Save program, amazon!
