not paw proof March 11, 2010 C. Rundquist Once my kitty realized he could stick his paw up inside and dislodge the food, this product became worthless. Which was very quickly.
Keep your cat fed for a month! March 9, 2010 Stuart T. Haines (Wellington, FL USA) A very large capacity feeder for cats (probably good for dogs too!). Fairly easy to set up and program. Feeds your pet 1 to 3 times a day. Works flawlessly. Our cats are happy. We're happy.
It does the job, after a few tweeks March 8, 2010 Laura Martin (Columbus, OH) So far, I have found that this works pretty well. I did some testing before I started using it and found that the 1/4 cup measurements were accurate. I saw some other reviewers complaining about this, but the food I use had round, 1/4" pellets and it was no problem.

br /The issue I found was that I noticed if I touched the machine even slightly, food would fall out of the shoot. I flipped it over to find that there was a small gap between the rotating piece and the shoot. I rigged up some duct tape to cover the gap and now it works fine. I shook the machine pretty hard and no food came out.
br /
br /I already see my cat getting curious about the food shoot, it won't take long before he sticks his paw up there. My duct tape will help prevent the food from falling, and I think another reviewer's chop stick idea would work too.
br /
br /I gave it 3 stars because you shouldn't have to "fix" the machine to get it to work properly. But, the fix was pretty simple and now it works great. Very easy to program.
It still rations food even if the cat figures out how to stick their paw up there... March 8, 2010 Pale (Western New York) I just wanted to write a really quick review for this product. We ordered and used it for a one week vacation and it did it's job wonderfully. However, our cat did VERY quickly discover she could stick her paw up it and get some food to come out, as many other reviews on Amazon point out.
br /
br /This had us considering returning it, but we discovered something interesting. The machine works using a four pronged spinner. Each flap on the spinner is soft and pliable to avoid jamming the machine. Each section of the flap is used in the portion controlling. For example, a half cup of food may be equivalent to filling up two of the four chambers.
br /
br /This is important to note because while our cat is able to stick her paw up the shoot and flex the tabs to release food, she is not able to actually spin the dispenser wheels. Therefore, when she forces the machine to give extra food, she is really just taking some of the food already allotted for her next feeding.
br /
br /She did this so often, when the feeding time actually came up on the machine, barely any food came out. But it did let her know she could stuff her paw up there and get more food.
br /
br /She was essentially eating her dinners for breakfast and the next day's breakfast for dinner. Therefore her food was still rationed extremely well and she got some exercise and play out of it.
br /
br /
br /So yeah, I give this product 4 stars. For a cat with just a little ingenuity, it does not work as directed, but still gets the job done nicely.
Good idea poor execution March 8, 2010 Psy (CA United States) I bought this feeder because my cat is overweight and the vet said she needs a diet. When I go out I always want to make sure she would have food and water should I be gone longer than expected for any reason. This seemed like the solution since the other way, which was just leaving an open bag of food for her, led to her weight problems. Unfortunately this item is not reliable at all. It skips feedings, it spits out food at random times when it is not scheduled. When it does dispense food it does so in the proper quantities but sometimes will dispense 2 or even 3 portions one right after the other. It is a nice looking unit, easy to use and set up. However I find it to be mostly unreliable and wonder if I just got a dud or if they are all like this. I was foolish and did not keep the packaging so returning it is probably not an option. I purchased the 10 lb version because the 5 pound version was quite a bit more expensive. I would not recommend this product.
