 Works, but is badly calibrated September 1, 2010

The timer setup is extremely easy and the cover fits tightly so the food does not go stale.
But as other reviewers mentioned, the portions are MUCH bigger than they are supposed to be. The lowest setting (1/4 c.) is more like a half cup and at times the shutter continues to dispense food every few minutes after the initial feeding.
If you are not extremely picky about portion size you could set it for 1 or 2 meals per day instead of 3, but if you have a pet on a controlled diet I would steer clear of this product.

Provides up to 3 meals a day at quantities up to 3 cups at each serving. The timer works great and it has never failed to dispense food. The issue I have is that the cats can reach their paw up into the rubber fan blades. The finger blades hold the food back until the timer activates. When they paw at the blades, they can get up to a quarter cup extra food by flapping the finger blades to dispense the trapped food. I have to plan on this so I dispense less each time I feed them. I also use duct tape to cover the food tray by the opening. This make it harder for little cat paws to reach the internal plastic dispensing blades.
The feeder is also light enough that the cats can move it around when they try to get more food by sticking the paw up the dispensing slot. I have to wedge it between two plant stands to prevent the feeder from getting knocked over. I have some pretty determined, large and very smart cats. Maybe the average cat won't figure out how to get more food.
It is the best multiple day auto feeder out there. The best feature is that you can specify the amount of food at each time. I would buy this again in a heart beat, even with the issues I mentioned.

In addition to the other complaints about this product, it seems to drop food at odd times or even just touching it will make food drop.

I bought one of these about two years ago. After getting used to the programming I found it easy to use and it did the job. However, after about a year or so the clock started freezing up sporadically for no apparent reason. Taking out the batteries and putting them back in again unjammed the clock. Even though the batteries checked out to be good I changed them anyway. After about two years it finally stopped working. The mechnical parts are sound, but the electronic controller fails. I may have been planned that way in order to ensure future sales. Who knows? I not would buy this product again, but would buy a similar model only if the life of the electronic controller is improved.

I am very pleased with this machine. It has relieved me of the chore of feeding the cats daily and the cats have stopped demanding food from me. I believe some of the negative reviews must be based on an earlier model of this machine, because the complaints seem to have been addressed and corrected. For instance, some have said that the pellet size of the food must be greater than 1/2 inch. The machine I bought specifically says that the pieces must be LESS than 1/2 inch, and it works very well with the cat food we use. My cats haven't tried to reach inside for more food, so I don't know if they would be able to, but the arrangement of the bowl and the chute would appear to make that very difficult.
